Baton Rouge, LA – September 7, 2024 – The Louisiana Scholastic Esports Federation (LASEF) is excited to announce significant growth and expansion of esports programs across the state. In an exclusive interview, Executive Director Jeffery Harrison provided insights into the latest developments and upcoming events.

Capital Area Esports League (CAEL) Expands

One of the highlights is the expansion of the CAEL, which was initially launched for high schools in the Baton Rouge area. The league has now grown to include seven parishes, offering more students the opportunity to compete in esports.

New Opportunities for Younger Students

Changes to the EBREL League coming, EBREL is now catering specifically to elementary and middle school students. This exciting development provides younger gamers with a platform to showcase their skills and participate in organized esports competitions.

Statewide Partnerships and Collaborations

LASEF has forged strategic partnerships to enhance its offerings. A collaboration with PlayVS enables the federation to host online championships, providing a competitive and accessible platform for students. Additionally, a partnership with Varsity Sports Now allows for live broadcasting of esports matches, increasing visibility and excitement for the community.

Student-Built Extreme Arcades

One of the most innovative projects is the Extreme Arcades initiative, that will be sponsored by Extreme Networks. This project involves students designing and building their own arcade machines, which will be showcased locally and even at an in North Carolina at Extreme Networks HQ. This hands-on experience empowers students to explore their creativity and technical skills.

Upcoming Events

LASEF has an exciting lineup of events coming up. The Stomp in the Swamp jamboree will take place on September 21st, followed by the EBREL/CAEL kickoff in October. These events will feature popular esports titles such as Rocket League, Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart, and more.
